Transitional living

Hands Across the Street's Transitional Living Ministry is a combination of two ministries:  the Columbia Shelter and the Resource Center, formerly the Columbia Day Center.

The Columbia Shelter for the homeless in Columbia (291 S 4th St. Columbia, PA) is open seven days a week, 7:00 pm until 6:30 am, year-round. Sleeping facilities, an evening meal, and a light breakfast are provided for the guests.  Showers and laundry capabilities are also available to guests.  Guests of the Shelter enroll in our Resource Center for the connections they need to transition from homelessness to independence, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The Resource Advocate and Shelter staff assist each person in creating and meeting goals tailored to their needs in order to break the cycle of homelessness.  Lunch is provided to clients of the Resource Center and each client of the Columbia Shelter is given an opportunity to do their laundry, shower, and use a telephone to meet their goals.
