Summer Food Service program
This ministry was started in 2012 with three feeding sites that provided 2,262 meals. Each succeeding year it has grown tremendously. Each weekday during the summer school recess, the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides a healthy meal to any child 18 and under in both Columbia and Wrightsville, a large majority of whom live below the poverty line. All meals are prepared in our certified kitchen at Columbia Presbyterian Church by our professionally trained chef.
In 2017 the Columbia/Wrightsville SFSP served 8,180 meals to children at eight distribution sites. At each site, there are fun activities for the kids to participate in, and even a traveling book lady who reads to the younger children. Due to generous gifts and donations, each child is able to take home a book at each traveling book session.
Sound like fun? It IS!
