Reaching out to ALL God's people.

In 2002, the thirty-one member congregation of Columbia Presbyterian Church (USA) decided that the church facility, constructed many years ago to accommodate a congregation of over 400 people, should be put to use serving the community.  Later that year, the first consistent community outreach by the church began with the clothing bank that provided free clothing to needy families twice each month.

With the help of the Presbytery of Donegal, the Synod of the Trinity, and other churches and organizations both inside and outside the Columbia area, this initial effort has grown to five distinct ministries:

A Free Clothing Bank
A Food Ministry serving meals to the community in various ways, including the Columbia Summer Food Service Program (USDA sanctioned summer lunches for kids),
The 4th Street CaféA live music venue/coffeehouse that serves nutritious meals while providing opportunities for local and regional musicians to share their talents
A Transitional Living Ministry for the homeless which provides basic needs (food, shelter and clothing) as well as a program for change that supports and encourages those who desire to transition from homelessness to independence.

The church's leadership formed Hands Across the Street (HAS) in 2009 to oversee its outreach activities.  HAS operates independently from the church with a separate Board of Directors.  HAS is a grass roots organization that provides first-level assistance

Our goal is to expand opportunities for clients by working together with our partner organizations to see that needs are filled without the wasted energy of service duplication.  Together, we work with these partner organizations:
