Food Ministry

You can help support this valuable ministry of Hands Across the Street by making a donation.
A free complete hot meal is served to people in the Columbia area at Columbia Presbyterian Church on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 10:30 until 12:30 pm and on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 5:30 until 7:00 pm

For convenience, Clothing Bank hours coincide with the Community Meals.

Free baked goods are also available to the guests.  Donegal, Kreutz Creek, New Harmony and Wrightsville Presbyterian churches share with Columbia in preparing and serving these meals.
For many of the 1st Tuesday meals, Chef Vicki VanSickle strives to feature less high carb and calorie laden food which are so often the staple of community-style meals. In conjunction with this effort to offer healthier meals, guests enjoy a demo of foods which are usually in season that can be prepared easily and affordably at home. Samples and recipes are shared with all.  When available, fresh garden produce is given away with the free breads and desserts.

Another part of the Food Ministry is mentoring of youth, aka "Kids in the Kitchen", who are taught basic cooking and food safety by Chef Vicki.  One of the "kids" has been able to use this experience to get a job at a fine dining restaurant.
